The Renaissance World Tour may be over. The “Queen” is more than likely somewhere on a private island resting and recharging in serenity. Well, Silver Metallic said, “there is no rest for the weary”. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. And I am here to tell you that Silver Metallic is reigning supreme. With the cooperation of designers and brands, the metal has made its way into our hearts. Silver Metallic took over the Renaissance Tour, conquered the runways and forced us to create room in our closets for the new “IT” GAL!

Metallic fashion debuted in the 1930’s. The metal found its place amongst rayon, silk, crepe, wool, satin and cotton the go-to fabrics of day wear. The more luxe fabrics such as silk and velvet were worn for formal evening occasions. The 1930’s were tainted by the Wall Street Crash of 1929, which led to the great Depression.
For most, money was scare and yet the rich and elite couldn’t get enough of the shine and gloss of metallic, choosing glam over grit. Metallic was reserved for the Hollywood elite. Or, dare I say - Hollywood “Starlets”. The trend became iconic and worn by many actors such as Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow and Joan Crawford at red-carpet appearances.

In textiles, Metallic fibre is known as synthetic and includes manufactured composed metal-coated plastic of aluminum. The fibres are lightweight and reluctant to tarnish. Metallic fibres are typically washable and rely on low temperature when ironed and for best care, dry cleaned is always an option. The fibre welcomes common solvents for cleaning, and color may be added to create a desired look. We witnessed Silver Metallic in its purest form take over the fashion scene.

J.Crew did an amazing job welcoming the trend. No doubt, the Croc Embossed Leather knee-high boot would be the life of any party. The almond shaped toe creates such an elegant duality. Wear "her" to top off a polished evening look or pair with a denim skirt, preferably maxi or mini. A pair of shorts showcasing the shit out of her sexiness works too!

Then we have the Metallic Puffer Jacket! The PrimaLoft down alternative is sure to keep you warm. This Puffer pauses right above the hips highlighting the perfect curves and accentuating any silhouette. I don’t care what you wear with this jacket; pop the collar, pair with a cashmere skull cap - pick a color, who cares and you are good to go.

Did someone say, Metallic Sequin Suit? Well, that’s what J.Crew thought you said. And, they delivered. This Louisa Lady Jacket and Ingrid Pant came together creating an acceptable pairing. I, for one, never - ever look for a top and bottom match; however, this Silver Metallic pairing is an exception. Whether worn together or separately, you win!

Coach did Metallic Silver a huge favor. The brand stayed true to its core by way of purses and handbags, yet their apparel is surely creating a lane of its own. The Sammy Metallic Handbag is timeless and a keepsake. The top handle is ready to accompany an evening look; the signature push-lock closure is defined with a crossbody detachable strap for day wear.

Coach Metallic Leather Long Skirt by far is my on trend favorite. I added the skirt to my cart, went to grab a credit card and I’m sure doodled around cleaning something and unfortunately the skirt, in my size, was SOLD OUT! In its traditional form, this leather maxi skirt has a 5-pocket design. You can pair with a Denim shirt - preferably, Indigo or a White Cotton button up and have fun with footwear; wear a sneaker, loafer or pump and you’ll be fashionably on time for anything.

We thought Ray-Ban did Aviator justice. Well, take a look at Coach Shrunken Aviator Jacket in Silver Metallic. This luxe vintage military jacket is adorned with an oversized plush shearling collar. The zippered metal hardware is lined with black material creating a bold finish. The belting at the cuffs tops this off with a curated look. How could you not make room in your closet for this “IT” Gal?

Often times a trend invades our lives and the affordability is simply NOT there. Honestly, I’m here to say Metallic gave us a buy in at all levels.

I, for one, did not get my Coach Metallic Skirt; however, I did find the perfect loafer at Madewell which I absolutely love! I don’t know if Beyonce reintroduced us to this Silver Metallic frenzy. What I know for sure, is that I’ve enjoyed the invasion.
Be Well!
